Obituary of Maria C. Alexis
The Life and Times of Maria C. Alexis
Maria Crucita Alexis, otherwise known as Nola, by her family members and friends, was born October 8, 1954 to Myrtle Alexis Garcia and Charles Herrera, both of whom are now deceased. She was the seventh of nine children and died on August 7, 2024 at the age of 69 years.
Maria grew up in Trinidad and Tobago and attended the Febeau Government School before migrating to the United States of America to join her mother and sister Esther Felix. She also attended Erasmus high school and Pace University in the US, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Maria was very passionate about her family and enjoyed family outings with family members and friends. She enjoyed cooking, which is something she very good at, her specialties were callaloo and oxtail. Maria also enjoyed traveling.
She enjoyed birthdays, especially those of her nieces and nephews, and always encouraged them to excel especially when it comes to their education, she was a big supporter.
Maria was a very committed worker. She worked for the FDNY before joining Human Resources Administration as a Procurement Analyst, Maria was very dedicated to her job and her love ones.
During her time with us Maria cared for her now deceased mother Myrtle who was a dialysis patient for more than 13 years and she did so with care, compassion and love. When Maria found out about her illness she became the “Organic Lady”, she would only purchase organic foods hence the name. She never complained and was always willing to lend a helpful hand.
Maria was a devout Christian. Maria became an active member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church where she was involved in community outreach and was a member of the prayer band until her illness became overwhelming, even then she continued to attend church until her untimely passing.
Maria is survived by her brothers Kenrick Alexis, Lenny Alexis, John Alexis, Steve Herrera, and her sisters, Grace Benoit, Esther Felix, Cinda Herrera, Geraldine Matthews, and also her stepdad Cyril Garcia. To name a few of her nieces and nephews that she so dearly loved: Anthony, Melisha, Stephen, Nequan, Brian, Tanisha, Debby, Sheldon, Judy, Dave, Makkeda, Simone, Elizabeth, Janelle, Marcus, Crystal, Chanel, Andrea, Anderson and Dale just to name a few.
Maria would always be remembered for her kindness, her compassion and her loyalty. She always went above her business without any fanfare, she was a kindred spirit. She would be dearly missed as we would have liked to have had her a little longer to share a moment or two with her. We would always love you Maria.
