"Captain Joe"
Joseph R. Ecock, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 68. He was the cherished son of the late Joseph and Patricia Ecock.
Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, having been the devoted husband of Margaret for nearly 37 years. Together, Joe and Peggy built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
A dedicated father, Joseph was the guiding light in the lives of his children: Joseph (Yana), Matthew (Taylor), and Meaghan (Dino). He instilled in them values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family bonds.
Joseph was a treasured brother to Tommy (Trish), Terry (Debbie), Margaret (Scott), Timmy, Monica, Kevin, and the late Moire. His presence brought warmth and joy to family gatherings, and his memory will forever be a source of comfort.
In addition to his immediate family, Joseph leaves behind a large and loving extended family. He was the brother-in-law of Mike (the late Toniann), Jimmy (Rosalie), Cathy, Kevin (Michele), Ellen (Bobby), and Patty (Robert). Joseph had nine nieces, nine nephews, seven great-nephews, and four great-nieces.
Joseph was immensely proud of his 20-year career as a Captain of the Staten Island Ferry, where he was affectionately known as "Captain Joe." His passion for the water ran deep, having grown up around boats his entire life. Fishing brought him immense joy and tranquility, and his love for the sea was evident to all who knew him.
A loyal fan of the Mets and Giants, Joseph enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams and sharing in the camaraderie of sports with family and friends. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Nostrand Avenue Council, where he found fellowship and community.
Joseph's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit will be forever cherished and remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joseph's honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
