Obituary of Joseph DeRossi

Joseph DeRossi, born on January 22, 1947, in Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on January 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and love. Joe's parents, Mary DeRossi (DeCandia) and Mario DeRossi, both hailed from Italy, instilled in him a strong sense of family and heritage.

Joe's journey through life was marked by significant milestones and contributions. After graduating from James Madison High School in Brooklyn, he answered the call to serve his country and was drafted into the Army in 1967. He bravely served in Vietnam, earning the rank of Sergeant ES and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1969. Joe's commitment to his fellow veterans continued through his membership in the American Legion.

Following his military service, Joe embarked on a diverse career path. He began as a butcher at United Meat Market, showcasing his skills for five years. He later transitioned to the Post Office, starting as a Letter Carrier. His dedication and leadership qualities were evident as he became a Shop Steward in Canarse Station, Brooklyn. Joe's upward trajectory continued, and he eventually became Chief Steward in Branch 41 in Brooklyn, ultimately rising to the position of Executive Vice President. He ended his career in Branch 562 in Jamaica, Queens.

In addition to his professional achievements, Joe was a devoted family man. He shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marguerite. Their union blessed them with two children, Marie and her partner Richie, and Joseph and his wife Krystie. Joe took joy in being a grandfather to Angelina and a step-grandparent to Amanda and Michael. He was the beloved brother of Angelo DeRossi.

Beyond his work and family life, Joe had a passion for cooking and entertaining. He delighted in preparing meals for friends and family, using his culinary skills to bring people together. Known for his infectious sense of humor, Joe had a remarkable ability to make others laugh and find joy in life's moments.

Joe also enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting, which allowed him to connect with nature and relish in its beauty. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.


The visitation for Joseph DeRossi will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. There will be a Prayer Service at 3:00 PM.
